Lithuanian law-enforcement officers reportedly found and seized 250,000 euros in cash from Masiulis’ Vilnius home last May. Consequently, suspicions against the former MP have been extended from political corruption and influence peddling to unlawful enrichment.

Masiulis had already turned to a Vilnius court for recovery of the money, however, his plea was rejected on February 15.

His second claim to a court of higher instance will be heard later on Wednesday.

Masiulis is suspected of accepting a bribe of 106,000 euros from MG Baltic concern vice-president Raimondas Kurliankis in exchange for “certain decisions that were favorable and financially rewarding to the concern.”
