400,000 fans filled the island in the capital of Hungary for a week for the 22nd Sziget, which was named the best in Europe at the European Festival Awards.
“We were just saying how excited people were. We used to go to a few festivals in Spain and there is a lot more excitement here, we’re running around like little kids in the playground, it’s great,” says Lucy Walker from the United Kingdom.
This year, for the first time in Sziget history, all weekly passes were sold out in advance, and only day tickets are available.
It’s grown from a small alternative campout music festival to line-ups featuring the likes of The 1975, Queens of the Stone Age, Placebo, and The Prodigy.
The festival is called “Sziget” (meaning island), as it’s located on an island on the Danube, north of the city centre, stretching over 172 acres.
Sziget Festival’s core values have been freedom, tolerance, love and diversity.
