“One must understand that funding depends on the country’s economic situation, on our existing commitments which we must fulfil, and on the geopolitical situation. The Government is doing everything to reach those 2 percent sooner, but it will depend on the economic and financial situation in the country,” the prime minister’s position was relayed to news agency ELTA by his spokeswoman Evelina Butkutė-Lazdauskienė.
President Dalia Grybauskaitė stated at the opening ceremony of the NATO Force Integration Unit that Lithuania could allocate 2 percent of GDP for defence as soon as in 2018 rather than in 2020 as previously agreed.
