The Cabinet is due to decide on the matter on Wednesday before turning to the president and asking her to submit the document for ratification.

The Latvian parliament endorsed the agreement in May, while in Estonia it was ratified in late June after intensive discussions.

The three Baltic prime ministers signed an agreement on the development of Rail Baltica in Tallinn in late January, stating their commitment to complete the project by 2025 and have the new railway operational in 2026 .

According to the latest data, construction of Rail Baltica, including the stretch between Kaunas and Vilnius, will cost about 5.8 billion euros.

The Rail Baltica project calls for building a high-speed railway line from Tallinn to Lithuania’s border to Poland, with passenger trains running at speeds of up to 240 kilometers per hour and freight trains at up to 120 km/h.
