The Foreign Ministry says that CETA will significantly improve access to a high purchasing power market for Lithuanian goods and services and will allow Lithuanian companies to participate in public procurement procedures in Canada.

Critics fear, however, that cheaper genetically modified products will flood into the Lithuanian market once the pact takes effect.

The free trade agreement will eliminate 99 percent of customs duties between the EU and Canada.
