Gintarė Daugėlaitė, adviser to the chairman of the Klaipėda court, told BNS that appeals had been filed by all of the convicted individuals, namely, Artūras Urbutis sentenced to seven years and nine months in prison, his brother Antanas Urbutis sentenced to six years, Ričardas Milvydas, former commercial director at Klaipėdos Nafta sentenced to 5.5 years in prison, Jurgis Aušra, former Klaipėdos Nafta CEO sentenced to a suspended sentence of three years and nine months, Svetlana Popova, former head of Naftos Grupe’s supply division sentenced to three years, and Urbutis’ son-in-law who served as manager of the Klaipėda branch of Šiaulių Bankas sentenced to two years and nine months in prison.

Under the verdict handed down on Dec. 27, the convicted individuals will have to compensate nearly 21 million euros in damages to Klaipėdos Nafta.

The court found that Urbutis, the sole shareholder of Naftos Grupė in 2006-2010, used Vaičiulis’ connections to Aušra to conclude the loss-making contract for the state, stipulating exceptional conditions for Naftos Grupė to reload vacuum gas oil via the Klaipėdos Nafta terminal.
