“We have lost one of the deputies of the Supreme Council-Reconstituent Seimas, a man who voted in favour of free and independent Lithuania in 1990,” said Seimas Speaker Loreta Graužinienė in a statement.
Beriozovas, who was 86, came from Akmenė District in Northern Lithuania and was a history teacher by trade.
In the late 1980s, he was second secretary of the Lithuanian Communist Party’s Central Committee and a member of the Supreme Council of the Lithuanian SSR.
Beriozovas was a close ally of President Algirdas Brazauskas and worked as his advisor between 1994 and 1997.
