Is Vilnius the city of low-flying angels?

DELFI / Mindaugas Ažušilis

The Vilnius authorities inform that the sign, welcoming drivers to the city, was changed in late November. The idea was proposed by Vilnius Mayor Artūras Zuokas.

The slogan has been both praised and criticized on social media. Supporters say that it refers to a previous city-commissioned art project, whereby white sculptures of small angels have been installed in various unexpected places across Vilnius.

Meanwhile critics suggest that the slogan calls up associations with fallen angels – and alleged corruption in the city governance – or notoriously reckless Lithuanian drivers.
