Gapšys announced his decision to quit as lawmaker during Monday’s meeting of the Labour Party’s council.

However, Gapšys will continue to be the deputy chairman of the party and the head of the labour Party‘s election headquarters.

Gapšys is suspected of taking a €25,000 bribe from the business group MG Baltic and the Prosecutor General’s Office has asked the parliament to lift his legal immunity that shields him from criminal prosecution.
