The Lithuanian Navy’s Marine Rescue Coordination Center was notified by Riga’s Marine Rescue Coordination Center that a 29-year-old member of the crew of the Latvian Navy’s command and support ship Viršaitis, which was at that time in Lithuania’s exclusive economic zone, had become unwell.

The Lithuanian Navy’s patrol vessel Žemaitis and a military helicopter were dispatched to the Latvian ship some 50 kilometers off the coast.

At around 3 p.m., the Latvian sailor was lifted to the helicopter and transported to Klaipėda University Hospital, where he received medical treatment.
