MG Baltic vice-president Raimondas Kurlianskis has been detained on suspicions of having offered a €100,000 bribe to the Liberal Movement’s former leader Eligijus Masiulis.

Steponavičius, who is a member of parliament and former minister of education, has lent his name to a charity foundation managed by 32 individuals, including himself and fellow liberal politicians.

MG Baltic’s donations to Steponavičius’ foundation have been generous, but unsteady, according to state registry. In 2016, MG Baltic Media gave €5,000 and Mitnija, also part of the group, donated 20,000 litas (€5,800) in 2014.

In all, Steponavičius’ charity fund has accepted over €34,000 in donations from MG Baltic companies.

MG Baltic is one of the biggest business groups in the country with holdings in real estate, media, retail and food production.
