Lithuania allocates EUR 36,000 to Iraqi children and fighting Ebola

EUR 26,000 is being allocated via the UNICEF. And the ministry has also decided to transfer EUR 10,000 to the World Food Program’s special operation for preventing the spread of the Ebola virus.

A humanitarian crisis is rapidly spreading in Iraq after Islamic State jihadists seized control of large territories in Iraq and Syria. According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 1.8 million people in Iraq are displaced, and hundreds need help.

Meanwhile, African countries are fighting the largest on record Ebola outbreak that started in Guinea in March and later spread to Sierra Leone and Liberia. The three African countries are in a state of emergency as the local authorities have so far failed to put the outbreak under control, with the death toll exceeding 3,000 people.

The UN says around USD 1 billion will be needed for fighting the ongoing Ebola outbreak.
