Lithuania on path to join OECD, deputy secretary-general says

William Danvers

William Danvers, Deputy Secretary-General of the international economic organization, had a meeting with Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius, Xinhua reports.

Linkevičius noted during the meeting that Lithuania’s involvement in the OECD work over the last year ensured the support of quite a few members of the organization for Lithuania’s candidacy.

“Lithuania’s strive of becoming a full member of the OECD enjoys the support of all political forces, experts and private businesses,” Linkevičius said in a statement released on Thursday.

The Baltic country has allocated all needed resources in order to meet OECD’s requirements, he added.

The exact date of Lithuania’s joining OECD has not been set yet, but deputy foreign minister of Lithuania Rolandas Kriščiūnas said to Xinhua in April that Lithuania sees itself as a new member of OECD as soon as in 2017.
