
“The state will win by having a healthier population. Surveys show that increased prices have an impact on giving up the bad habit. The excise duty increase is moderate and, in my opinion, money is not key – the essence is fighting bag habits. The fiscal result is not substantial here,” Šapoka told journalists after the government’s meeting on Wednesday.
The government has proposed raising tobacco excises starting next year, which would result in a 10-cent increase of the price of a pack of cigarettes.
