Giedrius Misutis, the chief of the Public Relations Division of the State Border Guard Service, told BNS that the bikers were not allowed to enter the Lithuanian territory because they did not have documents to prove roadworthiness tests.
In Misutis’ words, the bikers had Schengen visas and denied being part of the Russian nationalist club, Night Wolves. The organization had planned a 6,000km ride to Berlin via Belarus, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The Russian cyclists told Lithuanian authorities they were en route to the Russian Kaliningrad region.
Earlier on Monday, Poland refused entry to a dozen Russian motorcyclists who intended to join the road trip to mark the victory in World War Two. Poland’s Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz dismissed the trip as a provocation.
