Lithuania stuck in a rut when it comes to reforms, says Grybauskaitė

In an interview with LRT, she emphasized certain concerns raised by the European Commission – that Lithuania had made limited progress over the last year.

“The same problems are being repeated: our level of poverty and social isolation is among the highest, there are too many taxes for low-income earners, labour market regulations are too strict, and there is low energy efficiency,” the president said.

She also pointed out that, this year, the country will have to try to solve problems that have been dragging on for several years in a row.

“Fiscal stability, better tax collection, a strong labour market and social security system, the liberalisation of the labour market, and pension reform remain the fundamental issues that Lithuania has yet to solve,” said Grybauskaitė.
