Lithuania will promote Jews’ savers in documentaries, president says

“We’ll try to invest and produce documentaries with foreign creators so that the world learnt and knew that Lithuania is not only mentioned sometimes in painful and complex contexts but is also known for the courage of Lithuanian people, their sacrifice while saving Jews during the Holocaust. It will remind us all once against what the Holocaust means and what it brought to nations,” the Lithuanian president said on Tuesday, opening a photo exhibition to honor the Righteous Among the Nations.

In Grybauskaitė’s words, it’s very important that the exhibition, which will travel around Lithuania, will speak about those who valued people’s lives.

“Especially now when we evaluate our painful history and rethink our history’s difficult periods once again, it’s very important to see, besides that pain and acknowledgment of mistakes, those people who preserved and saved our and the State of Lithuania’s dignity,” the Lithuanian president said.

The exhibition is part of a project initiated by the Order of Malta and aimed at supporting Lithuanian Jew savers and their families, thus, contributing to the preservation of the Holocaust memory.
