The motion to dismiss him from the post was supported by 77 members of Lithuania’s 141-seat parliament in a secret ballot on Thursday, while 17 were against and 13 abstained. Three ballot papers were discovered damaged.
Under the Law on Higher Education and Research, the ombudsman may be dismissed from his post if more than half of members of the Seimas express no-confidence in him.
Sadauskas came under criticism after offering a 1,000-euro reward to a person who collects information and writes a research paper on “individuals of Jewish nationality who killed people or contributed to deportations or tortures”.
His term in the position would have expired in June.
