Lithuanian central bank chief: Euro changeover going smoothly

“In technical terms, changeover to the common currency is going rather smoothly,” Vitas Vasiliauskas told the daily.

He added that e-banks had not recorded any technical difficulties over the weekend and people continued to exchange cash litas to euros in banks and post offices.

Between 1 and 3 January, some 2,000 customers exchanged more than 8 million litas (EUR 2.32m) in cash offices of the central bank in Vilnius and Kaunas. According to Vasiliauskas, the largest amounts exchanged was 87,500 litas for an individual and 156,000 litas for a company. The smallest amount was 0.21 litas.
