Lithuanian foreign minister conveys condolences over deaths in Donetsk coal mine

“I am sending heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and all people of Ukraine. We are mourning the loss together with Ukraine,” Linkevičius said in a message to his Ukrainian counterpart, Pavlo Klimkin, cited by the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Death of 32 persons in the explosion in the coal mine in Donetsk, which is controlled by Russian-supported separatists, was announced by Ukraine’s Supreme Rada Speaker Volodymyr Groisman. A few dozen mine workers remain underground.

Ukraine’s government forces and Russian-supported separatist fighters have been at war in eastern Ukraine since last April. According to data provided by the United Nations (UN), the conflict has already claimed more than 5,700 lives.
