The major will be transported to Europe by NATO-led training mission Resolute Support air medical evacuation force. In Germany the officer will be met by a Lithuanian army combat medic and other representatives of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The officer’s transfer to Lithuania will be determined by a further medical check-up.
The officer sustained multiple contusions and rib damage during the crash, but vital organs were not injured. His condition is stable and he is able to walk.
As reported, the Lithuanian officer was injured in the crash of a Puma HC1 helicopter of coalition forces while it was landing in the territory of NATO Operation Resolute Support base in Kabul on 11 October.
Nine soldiers were on board of the helicopter. Five of them were killed in the crash – two from the United Kingdom, two from the United States and one civilian from France – while four others sustained injuries.
