Lithuanian PM looking for EUR 29.5m to raise government employees’ salaries

Algirdas Butkevičius

“We are talking about LTL 102 million (EUR 29.5 million) needed to increase salaries of people working in the budgetary sector under employment contracts,” said Butkevičius after the meeting of the Government on Monday.

Furthermore, the Labour Party is demanding to raise the minimum monthly salary as well, by LTL 100 (EUR 29), as of July 2015. It is estimated that LTL 500 million (EUR 145 million) is needed to implement this requirement and increase salaries of lowest-earning government employees.

“We will not manage to find LTL 500 million and certainly will not be looking for such an amount, because it is impossible,” said Butkevičius.
