Lithuanian postal service employees threatened by angry dogs

“Loose and aggressive dogs have always made a huge problem in rural areas. Unfortunately, recently we can see the tendency that post employees are attacked by aggressive dogs not in villages or countryside houses, but in the territories of private houses at the presence of the dog owner,” director of the Postal Network Division Inga Dundulienė said.

Kaunas Region is the most unfriendly area: this year, five employees of the postal service have been attacked by dogs. Postmen have also been attacked in Vilnius and Jonava Regions.

Dundulienė notes that the police is always informed about each incident of this kind, therefore dog owners should tend to their pets with due care.

Should a dog injure an individual or property, the owner is liable to a fine ranging between LTL 500 (EUR 145) and LTL 1000 (EUR 290). In case of severe injury leading to incapacity for work or long-term sick absence, the dog owner can be detained, arrested or incarcerated for three years.
