Grybauskaitė said in an interview with LRT Radio aired on Tuesday morning that at the General Assembly, she would speak about how to ensure that the United Nations can continue to fulfill its function of ensuring peace in the world.
Without directly mentioning the United States or other states, the president said that there were countries that “do not think that multilateral diplomacy is significant and are trying isolate themselves.”
During her US visit, Grybauskaitė will also take part in a women rights event and will hand the Grand Cross of Commander of the Order of Vytautas the Great to McCain’s widow.
The president awarded the Grand Cross to McCain last July on the occasion of the State Day. She described the late Republican senator as a friend of Lithuania who had significantly contributed to the country’s security.
