Lithuanian prosecutors drop probe into Belarusian airspace violation by Dane’s plane

The investigation was discontinued in September, however, was not announced.

The prosecutors told BNS that the investigation confirmed the breach of the Belarusian state border, however, it will not be punished, as it was not intentional.

“We established that the route of the demonstration flight had been harmonized with flight controllers of the Republic of Lithuania and the Republic of Belarus, the flight was fully controlled,” the prosecutors said in their response.

The violation was recorded by Belarusian authorities in the afternoon of April 19 when the P46T aircraft piloted by a Danish citizen flew up to 8 km into the territory of Belarus and returned to Lithuania three minutes later.

Belarusians said the aircraft had violated the airspace close to Astravyets where Belarus is building a controversial nuclear power plant.
