Prosecutors want Kurlianskis arrested for three months.

“We will ask to arrest him for three months,” Elena Martinonienė, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office, told BNS on Friday.

The prosecutors’ plea will be heard at a Vilnius court on Friday.

Kurlianskis was detained on Thursday and spent the night in custody. Law enforcement officers are investigating suspicions that MG Baltic representatives handed MP Eligijus Masiulis, the leader of the opposition Liberal Movement, a bribe of €100,000.

MG Baltic is one of Lithuania’s biggest manufacturing, trade, real estate and media groups. Operated by the concern, 72 companies posted a turnover of €539 million in 2015 and had nearly 3,700 employees.

Kurlianskis holds a top post in companies operating media channels – he is the board chairman of Laisvas ir Nepriklausomas Kanalas (Free and Independent Channel) that operates several TV channels and the board chairman of Alfa Media that operates Alfa.lt news portal.

He also heads the supervisory board of alcohol production company Alita, board member of Mediafon group and holds posts in a few other companies.

On Thursday evening, Masiulis announced his resignation from leadership of the Liberal Movement and plans to give up his MP mandate.
