Lithuanian rower breaks bones in palm, shattering Olympic dreams for 2016

Rolandas Maščinskas
DELFI / Tomas Vinickas

The official story is that Maščinskas suffered the break in his metacarpal bones – in his palm – when falling from a bike to avoid an accident. The unofficial story is that he suffered the break during a fight in Lentvaris, a town on the outskirts of Vilnius.

This is a story that the athlete has denied. If found to be true, however, he might face fines from numerous Lithuanian athletic organisations.

The injury will force the 23-year-old to miss the starting race that he spent four years preparing for.
