“We have revised our decision, and rebroadcasters are free to choose whether to leave (the channels) in their paid packages,” Edmundas Vaitekūnas, chairman of the Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission (LRTK) told BNS on Wednesday.
The LRTK decided last December to obligate rebroadcasters in Lithuania to move RTR Planeta to their paid channel packages for a year as a punishment for inciting war and hatred in a program. The media watchdog last May decided to impose the same sanction on NTV Mir Lithuania.
Vaitekunas said that the decision had been revised following consultations with the Commission.
NTV Mir Lithuania is owned by UK-registered Baltic Media Alliance Ltd, which also owns the Russian-language channels Ren TV Baltic and First Baltic Channel (PBK).
