The amendments were supported by the government on Tuesday. Under the document, the chairman of the Supreme Council should officially be listed among Lithuanian top leaders who enjoy protection for life.
The draft amendments stipulate it will require 940,000 litas (EUR 272,000) annually.
Under the existing law of VIP Protection, the country’s top leadership includes the president, the parliamentary speaker, the prime minister and people acting in these positions.
Landsbergis is currently guarded in accordance to an interior minister’s decree, not a law.
