The port says the vessel, owned by international shipping company Mediterranean Shipping Company, is 363-meter-long and sails under Panama’s flag.

Klaipėda is becoming a global container handling port and hopes to improve its handling results, Rimantas Juška, head of Klaipėdos Smeltė, a cargo handling company in the port of Klaipėda, indirectly managed by international shipping company Mediterranean Shipping Company, said last week.

According to Juška, an even bigger vessel will arrive in Klaipėda in a couple of weeks. Poland’s Gdansk is the only other Baltic Sea port that is able to accept such vessels. Containers from such large vessels are moved to smaller ships and distributed among regional ports.

The 337-meter-long Asya, Mediterranean Shipping Company’s other container vessel, broke Klaipėda’s record in 2015.

The longest container ships in the world are now 400 meter-long.
