The foreigners, mainly citizens of Russia, filed residence applications in Lithuania on the alleged grounds of volunteering in the Lithuanian branch of a Swedish non-profit organization Didaktik.

The foreigners declared they were doing volunteer work in Lithuania: teaching senior citizens to use computers, providing assistance and protection to animals.

The department said it had canceled residence permits for 78 individuals in the scheme, in addition to another 20 applications for residence permits that were rejected.

In 2017, the Migration Department annulled approximately 2,200 temporary residence permits, including 600 permits that had been issued to foreigners who had provided misleading data about their work in companies or after establishing that the company they had arrived to work for was fictitious.
