The defense ministers will discuss progress in joining the US-led coalition against the Islamic State group.
They will also speak about member states’ defense spending. Ahead of the meeting, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that defense spending across the Alliance was expected to grow by 4.3 percent in 2017.
Lithuania allocates around 1. 8 percent of GDP for defense this year and plans to increase its defense spending to just over 2 percent of GDP next year.
The defense ministers will also discuss NATO-EU cooperation and the Alliance’s NATO Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan. Twenty-one Lithuanian troops are currently serving in the mission.
