According to Marius Gurskas, a communication specialist from the Government Chancellery’s division of Lithiuania’s image, data collected by the public opinion and market research company tar TNS last and this year showed that various activities and initiatives related to the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the restoration of statehood have strengthen the public opinion on the importance of celebrating the February 16th.
“In comparison to last year, this year there was an increase of 18 percent in the number of responses that people personally find the February 16th important, or their friends and family members find this date important. The general number of people of this opinion rose to 68 percent,” Gurskas told BNS Lithuania.
Moreover, he said, three quarters believe the commemoration of Lithuania’s centenary has been successful so far.
A special coordination commission, chaired by Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, on Friday reviewed the implementation of the program for the commemoration of Lithuania’s centenary.
Commemorative events will take place throughout the year. The Lithuanian government has allocated 750,000 euros for 106 various commemorative projects over the last two years, with four fifths of events to be held in Lithuania’s regions.
