Ilgauskas, 39, lost his Lithuanian passport after accepting US citizenship. The former basketball player, who currently works as assistant to Cleveland Cavaliers manager Chris Grant, has lived in the United States since 1996. The Lithuanian law forbids, however, to have dual citizenship and automatically strips nationals who become naturalized in another country of their Lithuanian passports.
Moreover, Ilgauskas was facing a fine of EUR 1,450 for failing to inform the Lithuanian authorities about acquiring the US citizenship last year. However, he will not be fined.
The Lithuanian player currently lives in Cleveland with his wife and two adopted children, also from Lithuania.
Ilgauskas has played in NBA finals twice, but never won the NBA championship ring. His jersey, bearing the number 11, was placed in Cleveland’s Quickel Loans arena.
Before leaving for the NBA, Ilgauskas had played for Žalgiris Kaunas and Atletas.
