“The Riflemen’ Union will survive as long as there will be riflemen. Their growing number is our key priority, and over my upcoming term of three years my personal goal is to increase the number of riflemen by at least a third. On this occasion, I would really like to call on all Lithuanian citizens, irrespective of their profession, nationality, sex, to join the union,” Gumbinas told a press conference on Friday.

He will assume his new duties on July 11 under a decree signed by Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas.

Celebrating the 95 anniversary of its establishment, Lithuanian Riflemen’ Union now has around 8,000 members.

Established in 1919, the Lithuanian Riflemen’ Union is a state-funded voluntary paramilitary civic self-defence organization assisting the state in ensuring national security.
