One resident bought 60 packs of illegal cigarettes in Lithuania last year – figures

The production of cigarettes dropped 12.7 percent last year, and exports inched down 6.9 percent. Meanwhile, imports decreased 15.2 percent.

1,650 people died of malignant tumors linked to smoking last year in Lithuania, 59 fewer than in 2016. The majority of them (79.8 percent) were men.

Philip Morris Baltic, the only cigarette producer in Lithuania, owned by Philip Morris International, operates in Klaipėda, western Lithuania.
