The Seimas Committee decided against eliminating monthly days off for mothers and fathers and that parents must have the opportunity to accompany their children on their first day of school on 1 September.

The committee supported the proposal that labour councils should be established on an employer’s initiative if the number of employees in their company exceeds 20. Labour councils will have the right to undertake informational and consulting procedures that would include employees and their representatives in the company’s decision-making processes. In companies with fewer than 20 employees, employees would be represented by an elected representative.

The Committee also concluded that employees may only be represented by trade unions during collective bargaining.

The Committee will continue considering the proposes changes in the Labour Code draft on 20 January.
