Panel proposes to lift emergency in Lithuania over last year’s heavy rains

“The Agriculture Ministry recommended that the government’s emergency commission should lift the nationwide emergency and the commission approved our proposal,” Virginija Žostautienė, director of the ministry’s Performance Administration and Assets Management, told reporters.

The nationwide emergency was declared last October after the amount of rainfall in the country in August and September far exceeded the multi-annual average.

The Agriculture Ministry estimates that farmers suffered around 40 million euros in losses due to the heavy rains.
