Passengers of drunk drivers to face fines in Lithuania

A new package of laws to be discussed at the Seimas seeks the tightening of regulations for drivers and raising of the level of punishment for traffic violations.

Healthcare Minister Juras Požela has suggested punishments not just for intoxicated drivers, but also for their passengers. The latter, the passengers could also face fines of up to €140 under the new laws.

Last year, 15 people were killed by drunk drivers, some 350 were injured, according to Lithuanian police statistics.
