The prime minister told that to journalists in the south-eastern District of Šalčininkai, with several hours left until the presentation of the bill to the parliament.
According to the prime minister, the bill, which would allow the original spelling of non-Lithuanian names using Latin-based characters, would receive initial backing and linguists would be asked to present their conclusions before the final vote.
“Judging from the information I have received from the coalition partners, they said they would back it, of course, perhaps not unanimously. Following initial backing, the bill would be sent further to the State Commission of the Lithuanian Language, and we will wait for their conclusions. I hope that to happen in the fall,” Butkevičius told journalists.
