The Scania truck was detained at the Panevėžys bypass last Friday after crossing from Latvia into Lithuania via the Salociai border checkpoint, police said on Monday.

Officials seized 450,000 packs of Fest cigarettes, worth an estimated 1.5 million euros, with Belarusian excise stamps.

A court has issued a 15-day arrest warrant for the 50-year-old Polish driver, who refused to cooperate with the law-enforcement.

A pre-trial investigation is ongoing. The driver may face up to eight years in prison.
