“We are delighted to have a new blessed, which shows that serving the Lord is possible under various life circumstances,” the Vatican news agency quoted Jonas Ivanauskas, bishop of Kaišiadorys, central Lithuania.

In his words, Giedraitris was a person with the gift of deep faith and spiritual experience. “He was an ordinary person. It’s a testament to the fact there are no ordinary or extraordinary people, there are just people who love God, love other people, and serve the Church, executing God’s will,” Ivanauskas said.

Blessed Mykolas Giedraitis was born in Giedraičiai, Lithuania in around 1420 and died in Krakow on May 4, 1485.

Up until now, Lithuania had two blessed people – Jurgis Matulaitis and Teofilius Matulionis
