The government is set to officially submit his candidacy to President Dalia Grybauskaite on Monday, according to the Cabinet’s Monday agenda.
Pozela would replace Saulius Skvernelis who was appointed minister of the interior earlier this week.
Pozela said on Friday the news of his nomination came as a surprise, refusing to elaborate.
“Everything is changing so fast. Just ten minutes ago I had one kind of information, and now it’s another. We are uniformed people and sometimes we need to make all kinds of decisions. I’ll be attending a government meeting on Monday. There will be questions and answers, and they will be followed by nomination or not,” he told BNS on Friday.
Pozela, 40, has worked for the police since 1993. He was appointed deputy chief of police in May, 2011.
Earlier this week, Skvernelis replaced Dailis Alfonsas Barakauskas as interior minister following his resignation.
