“It is my duty as the president and leader of the Armed Forces of Lithuania to protect the state from any form of warfare. Today, Lithuania is in a state of information and propaganda war. We must defend ourselves, democracy cannot be weak – it must be able to defend itself. Therefore we, politicians and I, must make decisions which would help defend Lithuania from these various types of warfare. Beyond all doubt, I will be looking for opportunities to continue with the cause: I will speak to politicians and try to convince them. We must defend ourselves on our own,” the president said on Tuesday during her visit to the Grand Duchess Birutė Uhlan Battalion in Alytus town.

The amendments presented by the president propose a rule that at least 90 percent of retransmitted broadcastings in Lithuania must be in the languages of the EU. The amendments also expand the powers of the Radio and Television Commission: the commission would be able impose big fines for promotion and incitement of war and calls that threaten Lithuania’s sovereignty and independence.
