Grybauskaite is heading for Thailand, the first stop of her trip, to meet with Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for talks on boosting economic, science and education and culture ties between the two countries. The Thai princess last year paid an official visit to Lithuania.

In Bangkok, Grybauskaitė will also open an exhibition of Lithuanian children’s book illustrations featuring works by internationally Lithuanian known artists, such as Kęstutis Kasparavičius, Stasys Eidrigevičius, Nomėda Marcenaitė and others, the president’s press office said.

Grybauskaitė will then pay a state visit to Indonesia to meet with Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Setya Novanto, the speaker of the parliament. According to the Lithuanian president’s office, it will be the first ever meeting between the top leaders of the two countries.

Grybauskaitė plans to discuss with the Indonesian leaders bilateral economic, energy and tourism relations, the EU- Indonesia cooperation and the tackling of global security and migration challenges.

The president-led delegation to Southeast Asia also includes Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiunas and Deputy Agriculture Minister Rolandas Taraskevičius.

Agreements on cooperation in agriculture, energy, transport and tourism are planned to be signed during the visit, opening up new opportunities for Lithuanian exporters of dairy and meat products, solar batteries and other goods to gain a foothold in the fast-growing market.
