According to the presidential office, the amendments are aimed at ensuring “fair and adequate” prices of bailiffs’ services and preventing “artificially inflated salaries, bailiffs’ extortion, lawlessness and the impoverishing of people.”

The presidential amendments propose reducing the amount of necessary execution costs for bailiffs, ban excessive action and set a 15-percent salary limit from the amount recovered.

Now in Lithuania, bailiffs often take up to 100 percent of the amount recovered, and large mark-ups are often set on small amounts.
