Daiva Ulbinaitė, the president’s spokeswoman, said this to reporters after Grybauskaite met with the minister and representatives of supervisory authorities.

According to the spokeswoman, the Health Ministry has until now “maliciously ignored” this problem and there has been “an unjustified inaction”.

Reducing medicines prices and increasing the transparency of the system will be “a test of confidence for the new minister”, she said.

Also present at the meeting were Juratė Sovienė, deputy chairwoman of the Competition Council, and experts from the National Audit Office who have carried out an audit of the subsidized medicines system.
