The Supreme Court has ruled that the current construction of the Criminal Code is inappropriate and its section regulating corruption crimes cannot by applied to individuals as opposed to corporate entities.

“At first glance, the new ruling of the Supreme Court has no major consequences, however, other sections of the Criminal Code do not provide for anti-corruption regulation for private individuals; as a result, corruption in the private sector in Lithuania has remained unpersecuted,” says Bilotaitė.

The conservative MP intends to consider the proposals drafted by the Ministry of Justice in the meetings of the Parliamentary Group For Corruption-Free Lithuania and, together with the Ministry, look for the best ways to improve particular legislative acts.
