“In light of the current situation and the turmoil around it, I want to submit my resignation to Parliamentary Speaker Viktoras Pranckietis,” Pūkas said from the Seimas rostrum on Friday.
Earlier in the day, the parliament had decided to open discussions into revocation of his mandate, regardless of his request to postpone the process due to his lawyer being abroad.
The parliament decided that lawyer Aušra Ručienė had been aware of the date of the meeting in advance, therefore, her journey to Argentina should not be considered a valid reason to postpone the discussion.
Under the parliamentary statute, an MP can give up his mandate at any time of the impeachment process.
