Colonel Remigijus Baltrėnas, director of the Second Investigations Department under the Ministry of Defense, told a news conference at the parliament that such attempts were reported, however, did not specify the number of established attempts.

Defence Minister Raimundas Karoblis noted that recruits were being screened, adding that “infiltration actually does not work out.”

“I do not want to talk about numbers, however, the military intelligence is doing a good job, potential recruits are being screen, there is a filter,” said Karoblis.

In 2015, Lithuania reintroduced the conscription scheme in response to Russia’s actions in Ukraine and the Baltic Sea region. About 3,000-3,500 young people between ages of 19 and 26 are recruited on an annual basis.
